1916ish A Young Adult Time Travel Romance Novel eBook Ebony McKenna
I really enjoyed this story. There were a few areas where I felt like I had to go back and remind myself what had just happened, but over all, it was good "read". I think Ebony McKenna did a great job putting the reader onto a battle field. And maybe I have forgotten what it is like to "crush" on a boy when I was a girl. lol. But I found the romance to be distracting. But I'm not sure everyone would. Bravo!Product details

1916ish A Young Adult Time Travel Romance Novel eBook Ebony McKenna Reviews
Oh wow! What a ride! Written from the point of view of an exchange student visiting the battlefields in France, Ingrid and her friends (one that she's got a big crush on) find themselves thrust into a real war zone in 1916. The tension and drama doesn't let up as they work out how to get back to 2016 as well as dealing with strange twists - such as 'Where's the Eiffel Tower?' Ingrid's thought processes are highly charged as she deals with everything they encounter. It's an alternative world and anything is possible. It's a thrill ride of a story!
Ebony's writing style is incredibly appealing to YA with touches of humour and ironic story telling. The first person, present tense gives a real impact to what's happening and you can't help but get swept away for the ride.
If you like time-travel, adventure and a touch of romance - this is the book for you!
I am not a big YA reader but I did very much enjoy this one.
Ingrid is from Melbourne and is an exchange student staying in France with the Durand family the twins Luc and Marianne are 16 the same age as Ingrid and for Ingrid trying to treat Luc like a brother is getting very hard for her but she has strict instructions from her mother to be very wary of the boys in France but yes Luc is hot and she is drawn to him.
Luc, Marianne and Ingrid go off to enjoy a re-enactment of war games little realizing that this will change their lives forever as somehow they end up travelling back in time to war torn France in 1916. Their journey to get themselves back home opens their eyes in many ways and Ingrid's Aussie humour will have you smiling as does her need for her medication but of course there is danger and also Ingrid's attraction to Luc is getting stronger and it appears to be reciprocated.
This is an action packed story that had me turning the pages and thoroughly enjoying as the three teenagers throw themselves into danger so as they can get home and to see Ingrid and Luc's friendship turning into more than just friendship really made me smile and I loved the little twist at the end with revenge this is a great story that I highly recommend.
I love time travel stories but this one comes with a twist. When Australian exchange student Ingrid is forced to participate in a re-enactment of the Battle of the Somme, not only does she find the uniform itchy but they seem to be firing real bullets. Ingrid and her companions, the swoon worthy Luc and his sister Marianne, find themselves in the middle of the actual battle, but it's not quite as the history books relate it. Not only have they fallen back in time but also into an alternative universe where the British never lost Calais...
The author has done a fabulous job of not only portraying the angst of a modern teenager stuck in the past without any modern props, but also in the company of a boy after whom she has been languishing, as only teenagers can. She also shows a good knowledge of the actual historical events of the time and has cleverly manipulated them to suit the 'ish' of 1916.
Highly recommended for Young Adults and Young at heart Adults.
1916-ish A Young Adult Time Travel Romance Novel by Ebony McKenna
This is a young adult travel romance and although I do not normally read then I have read Ebony McKenna before and enjoyed her writing. So thought I would try.
Has romance in it but it is young interaction between Ingrid Calloway and her friend Marianne Durand’s brother Luc. Hugs and some kisses between 2 that started off as friends and led to a budding romance.
The three became involved in war-games re-enactment and suddenly it turned into the real thing. They went back to the year around 1916-ish. There were real guns, real soldiers, and real bullets. They were actually periled into the First World War.
That is when Ingrid who always had a crush on Luc had a more growing attraction to him, as he looked hot in his uniform.
Life was not easy and there were in France and realized the Eiffel tower was not there. They needed to keep dodging the dangers of the war.
The trio worked in a shop marking material to be cut out and used for making uniforms for the soldiers. There they met Valerie and Henri but do not realize that Henri was also there after doing a war re-enactment. Valerie was in charge of the shop that made the uniforms.
They soon realized the only way to get back home is by going the way they came in. They must go to the frontlines in an effort to get home.
This story really gave a wonderful insight as to what war is like and how we would find things so different if one day it is 2015 and by night fall it is 1915.
Boring
Time-travel is one of my favourite genres and I'm always intrigued to see how authors handle and explain the process. Ebony McKenna takes three teenagers, French twins Luc and Mari and Australian exchange student Ingrid, on an exciting and at times terrifying journey back to France, 1916 in the middle of First World War. The battle/transition scene is so vivid you feel you are there and as the teenagers start to get to grips with what has happened, odd things begin to happen. The tension builds to a superb twist that makes you sit back and go 'Whoa!'. The characters are extremely well-drawn and the budding romance between Luc and Ingrid is full of all the angst and doubt that takes you right back to your own teenage years. A highly enjoyable read.
Bravo!
